Monogram Tips
Making sure you get the monograms right can be a little confusing. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about monograms.
For a Traditional Monogram, the middle letter (the family name) is LARGER and in the center. It is flanked by two smaller letters representing the first name on the left and either the middle or maiden name on the right. Traditional Monograms are usually used for women or couples.
Men’s Monogram: The traditional personalization for a man are his horizontal initials also known as a block monogram. Each letter is the same height and appear in the same order as the actual name – first name, middle name, last name. Example: George Henry Smith would be GHS.
Couple’s Monogram: Traditionally when the bride takes the groom’s last name, the monogram is the Bride’s First Name, Common Last Name, Groom’s First Name. If you are undecided, just monogram the last initial-for a simple and sophisticated gift. Example: George + Mary Smith would be MSG.
Single Initial monogram? Absolutely! We love them.
Jewelry, Handbags, Bath wraps and other accessories for Women: Use the first name or the initial of her first name or her monogram. For Men: Use either first or last initial or name. Glassware & Barware: Use the first or last name initial of a woman. Use the last name initial for a man or couple if you are planning to monogram with a single initial.
Other Possibilities Include:
Use only a last name – for a family gift!
For a newly engaged couple, Mr. & Mrs. or Mr. Right & Mrs. Always Right
Use something other than a proper name! Embroider items with their intended use (pool, beach, lake, boat, drinks, towels, etc.)
Use the name of a location or boat (Lucky Lady, Welcome to the Lake, the Lake) Use a street address or zip code.
